Cricket Wireless Amphitheater in Chula Vista will host the sold out Radiohead show on August 27th

Radiohead comes to Chula Vista on August 27th

Radiohead advertised that they wanted the attendees to take public transportation, but such a call would not be heeded in these times. Yes, we all want to do our part, but yuppies are not taking a bus. Let’s be real. So after finding a parking spot in the sea of beamers, Mercedes and Audis we managed to get there about 10 minutes before show time. I found it fascinating that the vast majority of the crowd most likely stood for all that a band like Radiohead is against, but they are paying the bills, so let’s not get technical. Especially when the tickets cost a small fortune and a concert tee is $40 dollars. I still can’t put my finger on what it is about Radiohead that lures the thirty-something upper-middle class. Maybe they are deeper people than I thought. Or maybe not.

After missing the first song because my husband was trapped in urinal line hell for like 15 minutes, we got to our seats just in time for one of my only favorite songs, “There, There”. It was a sold out crowd, but fairly subdued. Other than getting pegged in the back of the skull by a flying glow stick from time to time, this was the most mellow crowd I’ve witnessed at a concert. I will say it was nice to be able to listen to the music and not worry about being puked on. Always a plus.

They are the best sounding band I’ve ever seen live, actually better than any recording. Their light show was so amazing I spent the entire concert wishing that I still did drugs. And although we were one row from the lawn, I can say with certainty that Thom Yorke dancing was the highlight of the entire show.

So, all in all, it was much more pleasant that I had anticipated. They didn’t play my favorite song, probably to spite me for bitching about having to go. I’m still alive and I’m sure my husband is grateful. What he doesn’t know…I still know all the words to every NKOTB song, and I believe that he may want to brush up in preparation for the 2008 tour.
